Peru Incinerates 11.3 Tonnes of Seized Drugs in Third 2026 Destruction Process

The government says the operation is meant to cut traffickers’ funds as it rolls out a new eradication program called PRECIP.

Overview

  • The Interior Ministry and National Police carried out the third destruction process at the Diropes base in Ate, incinerating 11,305.294 kilograms of seized drugs on May 21–22.
  • Authorities verified weight and chemical analysis before burning the consignments under standard technical controls to ensure chain-of-custody and safe disposal.
  • The destroyed stock included mainly cocaine hydrochloride, cocaine paste and cannabis taken in interdiction operations by Dirandro and specialized PNP units in Piura, Ica, Loreto, Ayacucho and Huánuco.
  • Police report more than 39 tonnes of drugs seized year-to-date in 2026, with roughly 85 percent consisting of cocaine derivatives, and say the DGCO will have destroyed over 22 tonnes after this incineration.
  • The Executive links the burns to a broader strategy to cut criminal finances and modernize eradication work by replacing Proyecto Especial CORAH with the PRECIP program coordinated with Devida and international partners.
