Peru Court Sets Dec. 12 Handover of Jossimar Cabrera to U.S. Marshals for Extradition

The order directs his release from Ancón I for delivery by INTERPOL Lima to federal officers at Jorge Chávez Airport.

Overview

  • Judge Óscar Torres Mego issued a December 3 resolution authorizing the transfer and instructing agencies to safeguard Cabrera’s health and physical integrity during the process.
  • The handover is scheduled at Jorge Chávez Airport, where four INTERPOL Lima agents will deliver Cabrera to three U.S. marshals for a commercial flight to the United States.
  • Peru’s Supreme Court previously declared the U.S. request procedent, and the executive branch approved the passive extradition on October 29.
  • Los Angeles County prosecutors allege Cabrera killed his wife, Sheylla Gutiérrez, citing CCTV of him moving a ‘voluminous object wrapped’ and an accusation that a knife was used.
  • Cabrera returned to Peru with the couple’s three children and surrendered to INTERPOL on August 16, after which a Lima court ordered nine months of preventive detention for extradition purposes.
