Peru Court Authorizes Access to Óscar Acuña’s Bank and Communications Records in Frigoinca Probe

The order lets prosecutors seek bank and call data to test a corruption theory tied to school-meal contracts.

Overview

  • Judge Leky Chagua, who granted the request Sunday, approved lifting bank and communications secrecy for Óscar Acuña as part of the Frigoinca investigation.
  • The judicial order covers records from February 1, 2022, through December 31, 2024.
  • The measure also applies to co-investigated figures Aníbal Morillo, Milton Broca, and Segundo Pineda, with communications records sought as well for the late Frigoinca owner Nilo Burga.
  • Prosecutors are examining alleged manipulation of public tenders to channel Frigoinca canned goods through Qali Warma, Peru’s national school-feeding program, in regions such as La Libertad and Junín.
  • The access will help anticorruption prosecutors trace money flows and contacts, a step likely to draw added scrutiny because one target is the brother of presidential candidate César Acuña.
