Overview
- The government published Decreto Supremo N.° 075-2026-PCM in El Peruano confirming that Thursday, Aug. 6 is a national holiday for the Battle of Junín and that Friday, Aug. 7 is a normal working day.
- Labor rules require either a substitute rest day or extra pay for anyone who works on the Aug. 6 holiday, and Sunafil and Decreto Legislativo N.° 713 establish that employees without a compensatory day are entitled to triple daily remuneration.
- Major Peruvian banks including Banco de la Nación, BCP, Interbank and Scotiabank said their physical branches will close on Aug. 6 while digital channels, ATMs and agent networks remain available for customers.
- Supermarket chains reported largely normal store hours for the holiday but consumers were advised to check local openings and use digital payment or ATM options for urgent transactions.
- In Argentina the only nationwide August holiday is Monday, Aug. 17 for San Martín’s death; several municipalities in Buenos Aires province, such as San Cayetano and Berdier, observe local non-labourable days on Aug. 7 that affect public offices and some bank branches.
