Peru Becomes Latin America’s No. 2 Exporter of Herbs and Spices With $600.9 Million in 2025

A new expo in Tacna connects producers with buyers to widen market access for Peruvian seasonings.

Overview

  • CIEN-ADEX reported that Peru ranked second in Latin America and the Caribbean for herb and spice exports in 2025 with $600.9 million, trailing Mexico which topped $1.2 billion.
  • The first Expo Hierbas & Especias in Tacna showcased innovation and market access tools and held a business roundtable to link small producers with domestic and international buyers.
  • Tacna’s shipments reached $25.10 million in 2025, up 29.7% year over year, led by oregano, rosemary, marjoram, paprika, dried ginger and turmeric, with sales to Brazil, the European Union, Chile, Argentina and Ecuador.
  • Peru’s export basket in this niche is concentrated in onion, paprika and ginger, and six regions drive most volumes: Tacna, Lima, Ica, Junín, La Libertad and Arequipa.
  • From 2000 to 2025, exports grew at an average annual rate of 12.3%, helped by demand for healthy foods, the rise of Peruvian cuisine, trade agreements and logistics upgrades, as seen in Tacna’s ninefold increase since 2000.
