Peru Authorizes Early Graduation of 5,655 Police Trainees to Bolster Security

The measure invokes Article 96 to commission recruits after four semesters to confront rising crime.

Overview

  • Decreto Supremo N.º 002-2026-IN makes official the exceptional egreso and graduation of the 2024-II “Protección Ciudadana” cohort.
  • Recruits completed their fourth academic period in March 2026 in the specialties of Order and Security and Criminal Investigation.
  • The decree permits conferring the ranks of Alférez and Suboficial de Tercera without the technical bachelor degree under the exceptional regime.
  • Funding will come from existing Ministry of the Interior budget credits with immediate incorporation to patrols, investigative units and public-order operations.
  • The move repeats a 2025 precedent and draws scrutiny over a one-year training gap created by graduating after four semesters instead of six.
