Overview
- Resolution Directoral No. 006-2026-MTC/18, published in El Peruano, sets exceptional technical specs for the national plate used by category L vehicles.
- The temporary standard applies nationwide for up to four months or until regular supply is restored under the authority granted by Supreme Decree No. 005-2026-MTC.
- The plates use six alphanumeric characters on a white background, measure 17 cm by 20 cm, and include a hologram and laser-engraved security code.
- The MTC says the temporary issuance will not add costs for users compared with current national plate fees.
- The Automotive Association of Peru reports issuance and delivery have resumed, the online portal is open, and backlogged plates will begin distribution on Monday, Feb. 16 under a special plan prioritizing requests since December 2025, with ordinary timelines extended as needed.
