Perth Paediatrician Now Faces 53 Child Sex Charges

Prosecutors expect more charges as investigators continue interviewing possible victims

Overview

  • The paediatrician, Dr Chia Liang Saw, appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday after 20 new charges were laid, bringing the total to 53 and prompting the court to adjourn his bail application.
  • Police allege offending took place between November 2022 and May 2026 in Wembley, Nedlands and Midland and included covertly recording patients during consultations, sexual assaults and producing or possessing child exploitation material.
  • Investigators have identified 10 alleged victims so far, most of them girls aged about 12 to 15, and prosecutors told the court that more potential victims are being interviewed with additional charges likely to follow.
  • Prosecutors say evidence includes device searches, internet history and allegations he used the Sugar Daddy dating site, sent inappropriate emails, and waited outside a child’s school and home while the defence says recordings were made to protect the doctor and he denies the persistent sexual conduct counts.
  • Dr Saw has been remanded in custody and held in a secure unit at Hakea Prison, his medical registration has been suspended, and authorities have raised mental health and flight‑risk concerns as investigators continue to review electronic evidence and clinical practice safeguards.
