Overview
- Officers and paramedics were called to Leyland at 7:20am on Friday when a person was found on the tracks and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
- National Rail said all lines between Preston and Bolton/Wigan North Western are closed while emergency services complete their work, forcing an immediate suspension of services on that stretch.
- TransPennine Express, Northern and Avanti West Coast services are among those affected with routes between Liverpool, Blackpool, Manchester and Cumbria disrupted.
- Passengers have been offered alternative routes and cross-acceptance on services such as Merseyrail and specified Bee Network buses, with some journeys delayed by up to 60 minutes and major disruption expected until at least 10:00.
- BTP confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances, a file will be prepared for the coroner and welfare signposting including Samaritans has been publicised for anyone affected by the incident.
