Periscolaire Worker Near Avignon Indicted for Sexual Assaults on Young Children

Prosecutors say the inquiry will continue under an examining magistrate to find possible additional victims and collect child testimony.

Overview

  • The probe began after a mother filed a complaint on June 10 alleging sexual assault by a 25-year-old animateur at a Morières-lès-Avignon centre aéré.
  • On Friday the prosecutor announced the man was formally charged for sexual assaults on three children aged about three to four and that several parents have filed complaints.
  • He is under strict contrôle judiciaire that requires medical or psychological care and bars him from the Vaucluse, school perimeters, contact with minors, and communication with victims and witnesses.
  • The municipality suspended him for six months and the Association d’aide aux victimes (Amav) has contacted identified families to offer psychological and legal support.
  • Investigators used a child-adapted 'Mélanie' interview room to take testimony and said the examining magistrate will continue work to identify any other victims as the inquiry develops.
