Penske Media Acquires Vox Media Brands and Creates PMX

Penske will fold Vox’s niche titles, along with its Concert ad marketplace and Forte data platform, into a single division to expand audience scale, shift revenue toward ad sales, plus grow live events.

Overview

  • Penske Media announced Thursday that it acquired Vox Media’s remaining publishing brands, the Concert ad marketplace and the Forte first‑party data platform and has combined them under a new subsidiary called PMX.
  • Ryan Pauley, formerly president of Vox Media, will lead PMX as president while PMC executives Tom Finn and Ken Delalcazar take on chief operating officer and chief financial officer roles for the unit.
  • The deal brings titles such as Eater, The Verge, SB Nation, POPSUGAR, The Dodo, Thrillist and Punch into PMC’s portfolio of more than 25 brands that reach hundreds of millions of people each month.
  • Financial terms were not disclosed; PMC had previously been Vox’s largest shareholder after taking a reported 20% stake in 2023 and completed this acquisition after May’s separate sale of Vox.com, New York magazine and the Vox podcast network to Lupa Systems.
  • PMC says the acquisition is meant to boost monetization by combining Vox’s ad tech and first‑party data with PMC’s live events and sales teams, a move that could strengthen premium ad bundles and reduce reliance on referral traffic.
