Pelhar Senior Inspector Suspended After Mumbai Police Bust Nalasopara Mephedrone Factory

The unit was found operating just 200–300 metres from his station, prompting disciplinary action for inexcusable negligence.

Overview

  • Zone-6 anti-narcotics officers and Tilak Nagar police raided Rashid Compound in Pelhar on October 25, dismantling a makeshift lab.
  • Officers seized about 6.7 kg of mephedrone along with precursor chemicals and equipment valued at roughly ₹13.4–14 crore.
  • Five suspects were arrested, with Ayub Ali Abubakar Siddiqui identified as the manufacturer and four others accused of distribution across Mumbai and Mumbra.
  • The case grew from an October 5 arrest of a peddler with 57 grams of MD, whose interrogation led investigators up the chain to the factory; police are also questioning the property owner.
  • Police say they are probing an alleged Dubai-based control of the operation, and an investigating officer reported the lab had run for months with capacity of up to 50 kg a month.
