Peacock Sets Live-Action ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl’ Series in Development

The adaptation signals a broader push to bring LitRPG stories to mainstream streaming.

Overview

  • Multiple outlets on Thursday reported the project is officially in development at Peacock as a live-action series.
  • Chris Yost will write and executive produce with Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door leading production alongside author Matt Dinniman, Erica Huggins, and executive-in-charge Rachel Hargreaves-Heald.
  • The show adapts a LitRPG premise in which survivors, including Coast Guard vet Carl and a talking cat named Princess Donut, must perform on an alien-run game show after an invasion.
  • Progress toward filming hinges on contract approvals and visual-effects tests, and Dinniman said the team will not proceed if the CGI quality falls short.
  • Seven novels are out with an eighth due May 12, and the fast-growing franchise now includes planned toys, tabletop games, and graphic novels.
