PC Steven Allcock Sentenced for Killing Trevor Bartlett by Careless Driving

Prosecutors said his claimed emergency driving exemptions were unjustified following an IOPC investigation.

Overview

  • Derby Magistrates’ Court on 12 February 2026 imposed a 12-month community order with 180 hours of unpaid work and a two-year driving disqualification.
  • Allcock struck the 80-year-old at the A52 Nurseryman junction after passing a red light in the bus lane as Mr Bartlett crossed on a green signal.
  • Forensic examiners estimated an impact speed of 25–28 mph and noted his view was obscured by stationary vehicles in adjacent lanes.
  • The van was on blue lights and sirens while transporting a newly arrested, distressed detainee who was banging his head and shouting, which the officer cited as a momentary distraction.
  • The CPS said his driving failed to meet response-driver training standards, and Nottinghamshire Police will hold a gross-misconduct disciplinary hearing following the IOPC inquiry.
