PayPal Brings Native PYUSD Issuance to Polygon

The change reduces bridge-related attack surfaces by giving businesses a single Polygon integration to accept, settle and cash out regulated dollars.

Overview

  • PayPal announced July 9, 2026 that PYUSD is now minted natively on Polygon by Paxos and available through Polygon’s Open Money Stack.
  • Native issuance removes the need for cross-chain bridges, cutting a common attack surface and making PYUSD a first-class asset on Polygon rather than a bridged token.
  • Polygon’s Open Money Stack links wallets, fiat on- and off-ramps and compliance tools so companies can accept card or bank payments, settle in PYUSD and convert to local currency through one integration.
  • PYUSD is issued by Paxos under a national trust charter supervised by the OCC and is backed by cash, dollar deposits and short-term U.S. Treasuries with monthly attestations.
  • The rollout complements March’s global consumer and merchant access push and expands distribution for a token with about a $2.7 billion market cap and deployments across roughly 17 networks, while giving PayPal a route to drive real-world payment flows on a high-volume stablecoin network.
