- Galway GAA confirmed Paul Clancy’s death after a period of illness and reports say he died on Monday, June 22, 2026, leaving his wife Johanna and children Ellen and Finn.
- Clancy was a central figure in Galway’s All-Ireland wins in 1998 and 2001 and he also won five Connacht senior titles during his inter-county career.
- At club level he played for Maigh Cuilinn, helped them win the 2008 All-Ireland Intermediate Club title, and later served as club chairman when the club won county and Connacht senior honours.
- After his playing days he moved into coaching and management with roles that included work with Galway under Alan Mulholland and with Laois under Justin McNulty, and he worked for ESB Networks for 27 years.
- Tributes have poured in from Maigh Cuilinn, Galway GAA and national outlets, a book of condolences has been opened and funeral arrangements have been announced for late June in Moycullen.
