Patriotic Solar Trash Cans Reinstalled at EPCOT’s American Adventure

Disney has replaced older brown bins with themed solar-powered compacting units to cut manual emptying and boost on-site capacity.

Overview

  • Themed patriotic trash and recycling cans have been installed throughout The American Adventure pavilion, replacing the previous brown units following their brief July appearance and removal, sources reported Saturday, August 1, 2026.
  • Each new unit uses a rooftop solar panel and internal battery to run an automatic compactor and has fill sensors that alert custodial Cast Members when service is needed.
  • The recycling units now carry the same flag-style crest as the trash bins, a white front with navy sides, a shield with stars and stripes, gold trim and a “76” motif tied to 1776.
  • Guests and Cast Members have reported confusion over how some models open, visible overflows at a few sites, and concerns that the rounded tops remove a makeshift flat surface guests used as tables while wheelchair users and others may find the foot-pedal or taller openings harder to use; Disney published an instructional video and says it is adjusting placement and servicing routines in response.
  • Disney confirmed in June 2026 that similar solar compacting bins will roll out across all four parks, water parks and Disney Springs with Walt Disney Imagineering leading themed designs, a move aimed at reducing emptying frequency and lowering on-the-ground labor needs.
