Patrick Bruel Faces Rape Inquiry and New Complaint After Mediapart Report

The case has moved to a preliminary probe in Saint-Malo following Mediapart’s publication of eight testimonies.

Overview

  • At least two formal complaints are now public: a March 12 filing in Paris for sexual assault and attempted rape, and a 2024 complaint in Saint-Malo alleging a 2012 rape.
  • The Paris complaint was filed by Unifrance director‑general Daniela Elstner, who alleges an assault and attempted rape during the French Film Festival in Acapulco in November 1997.
  • The Saint-Malo prosecutor confirmed a preliminary investigation linked to the 2012 allegation, and sources say Bruel has not yet been questioned.
  • Mediapart’s investigation collected eight testimonies describing alleged acts from 1992 to 2019, including one accuser who says she was 15 at the time.
  • Through his lawyer Christophe Ingrain, Bruel denies any coercion and notes that earlier 2019 cases were closed without further action in December 2020.
