Overview
- A Transperth route 390 bus lost control on Joondalup Drive and struck a large tree on Thursday, June 4, leaving seven people injured and a 61-year-old male passenger who died in hospital overnight.
- Emergency services mounted a large response with eight St John WA ambulance crews, firefighters and police and closed Joondalup Drive between Burns Beach Road and Wanneroo Road for much of the day.
- A 59-year-old woman remains in serious condition at Royal Perth Hospital and the 56-year-old bus driver is receiving medical treatment at the same hospital.
- Witnesses reported the bus travelling slowly and hitting curbs before the crash but police say the reason the driver lost control is unknown and they have asked anyone with footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
- Major Crash investigators are examining the scene and evidence while Road Trauma Support WA and hospital teams provide help to passengers and families as inquiries continue.
