Dashcam footage from September 2025 shows an officer draw a handgun in a quick-draw manner, an arriving driver then drew and a shot was fired through the cruiser windshield that struck a colleague who has since recovered.
After the department released the dashcam video in June 2026, an unnamed witness provided new information that led Police Chief Gene Harris to open a fresh internal investigation.
Several officers seen in the video have been placed on administrative leave as the new probe proceeds and the department says it will share findings as California law allows.
