Parliamentary Ethics Committee Set to Be Installed in Chamber of Deputies

Its formal start will let the body elect its leadership so it can begin disciplinary oversight of legislators.

Overview

  • Congress has approved a six-member Ethics Committee and will hold an installation session to elect the committee’s Mesa Directiva, enabling the group to begin official work.
  • The committee’s members are Mery Infantes (Fuerza Popular), Jessica Sadith Pérez Quispe (Juntos por el Perú), Edwin Espinoza (Partido del Buen Gobierno), Javier Cipriani Thorne (Renovación Popular), Heber López (Partido Cívico Obras) and Harvey Colchado (Ahora Nación).
  • Deputy Javier Cipriani Thorne will coordinate the installation session and is also one of the six appointed members.
  • Juntos por el Perú revised its nomination during the selection process and ultimately presented Jessica Pérez Quispe in place of earlier proposals, a change that was approved by the Plenary.
  • Once its leadership is chosen the commission will be able to open or process disciplinary inquiries, including at least one early matter reported as pending review involving a complaint against a member of Juntos por el Perú.
