Overview
- Baltimore homicide detectives responded to reports of two people in the water near the 1300 block of Lancaster Street in Harbor East and recovered one man who was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
- Police identified the victim as James Britt, 37, of Baltimore and say a preliminary probe found he had been involved in a physical fight before entering the water.
- Investigators arrested 36-year-old James Fitzsimmons of Parkville and charged him with second-degree murder after charging documents and surveillance video, obtained by police, reportedly show Fitzsimmons pushing Britt into the water.
- Dive teams from the Baltimore City Fire Department located and pulled Britt from the water while another person got out on their own, and Fitzsimmons was processed at Central Booking following his arrest.
- Homicide detectives are continuing to collect evidence and are asking anyone with information to call Baltimore Police at 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 866-7-LOCKUP.
