Paris Luxury-Car Conciergerie Raided, Nearly 20 Vehicles Stolen

The BRB is investigating how the conciergerie's vaunted security failed.

Overview

  • A group of about 15 thieves hit the underground garage in the 15th arrondissement early Sunday and took keys and registration papers, then drove off with close to 20 cars.
  • The Paris prosecutor assigned the Brigade de répression du banditisme to the case and about a dozen people have been arrested and placed in custody.
  • Police recovered two vehicles linked to the heist, including a Renault Captur with four people aboard near Issy-les-Moulineaux and another car found empty in Villejuif.
  • The stolen cars include high-end brands such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and Maserati, and the losses run into several million euros, leaving owners unsure how they will be reimbursed.
  • The site markets itself as a fortress with constant cameras, a nearby security post, fingerprinted entry and rounds every three hours, and investigators are now testing how those defenses were bypassed.
