Paris Leads a Global Reappraisal of Martin Parr’s Satirical Eye

A Paris retrospective recasts his vivid satire as a caution on consumption linked to climate.

Overview

  • Jeu de Paume’s Global Warning in Paris showcases 180 photographs organized with director Quentin Bajac and runs through 24 May.
  • The exhibition frames Parr’s color documentary as a critique of leisure, overconsumption and human behaviors linked to contemporary climate change.
  • French press and institutions are celebrating him as a cultural star, with Metro-wide posters and reviews comparing his stature to Cartier-Bresson.
  • Further tributes include The Last Resort at the Martin Parr Foundation in Bristol, A Fair Day at The Photographers’ Gallery in London, shows at Fotografiska Stockholm and Foam Amsterdam, and Parrathon opening at Kunstmuseum Karlsruhe in November.
  • Parr died on 6 December 2025 at home in Bristol aged 73, had been shooting in Italy the day before, and reports have cited blood cancer as the cause.
