Paris Appeals Court Upholds Hanouna Conviction for Insulting MP, Cuts Fine to €2,000

The case stems from a 2022 TPMP exchange where the presenter insulted Louis Boyard after the MP criticized Vincent Bolloré.

Overview

  • The court confirmed the February 2025 ruling and reduced the penalty from €4,000 to €2,000 after a February 4 appeal hearing held without the parties present.
  • Former C8 director-general Franck Appietto received a €500 fine with suspension in the same decision.
  • The incident occurred on November 10, 2022 during TPMP, when Hanouna used insults such as "tocard" and "merde" following Boyard’s on-air remarks about wealthy figures including Bolloré.
  • Boyard filed a criminal complaint on November 23, 2022, and in January 2026 he was acquitted in a separate defamation case brought by Hanouna.
  • Separately from the criminal case, regulator Arcom fined C8 €3.5 million over the sequence, a sanction upheld by the Conseil d'État in July 2024, and C8 later left TNT as Hanouna moved to W9.
