Overview
- Grace Measor, 19, from Hartlepool, died Friday after complications from a stem cell transplant at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital.
- Doctors confirmed a relapse in December at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, then planned total body radiation and strong chemotherapy before the transplant.
- To protect future fertility, she had an ovary harvested and frozen before treatment that can cause sterility.
- After the transplant, a chest infection and other rare side effects caused a catastrophic brain injury, and doctors withdrew treatment as her parents and sister held her.
- Her parents shared letters urging loved ones to “go and live your life,” and asked supporters to give blood, join the stem cell register, and donate to the Freeman wards, with a JustGiving total around £7,000.
