Overview
- Repair and concreting work on the Sant Namdev Maharaj (Parel TT) Flyover, which began Tuesday evening, shut the northbound carriageway and set off heavy congestion in central Mumbai.
- Phase 1 runs March 9 to April 15 with the northbound lane closed round the clock, and evening flow between 4 pm and 10 pm shifted onto the southbound side before rejoining near Hindmata.
- Phase 2 runs April 16 to May 31 with the southbound lane closed, and traffic using the opposite carriageway and slip roads by time window, as ordered by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-South) Prashant Pardeshi under Section 115.
- A traffic official reported about a 40% jump in vehicle volume on day one, and the shutdown of the nearby Elphinstone flyover has worsened queues across routes like Bhoiwada and Lalbaug.
- The revamp replaces asphalt with concrete over roughly 350 metres, cuts expansion joints from 22 to 9 to spread loads and reduce wear, and adds more than 240 bearings, with completion targeted by May 31.
