Paramount+ Says It Is Recruiting Writers to Reinvent Star Trek TV

The streamer says it is actively courting writers and elevating an internal creative lead as it plans a return to new Star Trek series for television.

Overview

  • This week Paramount+ EVP Jane Wiseman told Deadline the streamer is "talking to a lot of writers" and is leaning on CBS Studios to develop the next iteration of Star Trek on television.
  • There are currently no new Star Trek series in production or officially announced, with Strange New Worlds streaming its fourth season, a pre-filmed fifth and final season completed, and Starfleet Academy canceled with a second season yet to air.
  • Paramount+ recently hired Chris Parnell and Wiseman described him as a resident Star Trek fan who will help shepherd forthcoming TV projects inside the streamer.
  • Separately, Paramount Pictures has Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley attached to a Star Trek movie that the studio confirmed is in development but not yet greenlit.
  • Key questions remain about long-term stewardship of the franchise, including Alex Kurtzman’s future and how a corporate reset and audience trends will shape which projects get made and when.
