Overview
- A male paraglider fell in a field about 500 metres from the AV-P-507 in Villafranca de la Sierra and was pronounced dead at the scene by attending medical personnel.
- The 1-1-2 emergency centre opened a multiconference with regional health services and dispatched a medicalized helicopter while the emergency coordination centre mobilized the Junta de Castilla y León rescue helicopter with two rescuers, one of them a nurse.
- The Guardia Civil COS and the Ávila fire brigade were notified and both helicopters landed near the victim to attend him, after which authorities activated the judicial protocol and confirmed the death.
- In a separate incident, the Guardia Civil rescued a 37-year-old paraglider in Jaén who deployed his emergency parachute after his canopy folded and was airlifted to a trauma hospital with a leg injury.
- Under Spain's judicial protocol for sudden deaths, forensic procedures and a formal investigation will follow before officials release the victim's identity or a definitive cause of the fall.
