Overview
- The 29.6 km MUTP-3 corridor will run as a double-line EMU route with 25 kV AC electrification, an estimated cost of Rs 2,780 crore and a ~110 km/h design speed, targeting completion in 2026.
- The 2.639 km Wavarle Tunnel, the suburban network’s longest, includes refuge areas every 50 metres, a continuous walkway, jet fans every 200 metres and a membrane-lined interior to curb water ingress.
- Inside the three tunnels, suburban trains will run on ballastless slab track — a first for this section — chosen for stability, lower maintenance needs and a smoother ride.
- A new integrated suburban terminal at Karjat is being built with six platforms and five lines, including a 330 metre platform ready for 15-car trains and future Karjat–CSMT operations.
- Central Railway’s Mumbai division has added four escalators (Kasara and Badlapur), two lifts (Vangani and Badlapur), 142 new BLDC fans, eight HVLS fans at Dadar, 362 new LEDs, 1,635 LED replacements and 56 new suburban indicators, plus four train display boards at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus.
