Panthers Put Taylor Moton on NFI List After Blood Clot Diagnosis

Carolina will shift starting tackle duties to recent offseason additions as team doctors monitor Moton’s recovery.

Overview

  • The Panthers announced on July 21 that veteran right tackle Taylor Moton was diagnosed with a blood clot in his lung and will start training camp on the reserve/non-football injury list.
  • Moton was placed on blood thinners and is being assessed daily by team medical staff, and the club says he is responding to treatment but will miss the start of the regular season with an uncertain return timetable.
  • Cornerback Jaycee Horn also began camp on the NFI list after a foot cut that required stitches, though the team expects him back early in camp.
  • With Moton sidelined and left tackle Ikem Ekwonu already recovering from a torn patellar tendon, Carolina plans to rely on free-agent Rasheed Walker, first-round rookie Monroe Freeling and other depth players to fill starting tackle roles.
  • The Panthers face short-term roster and protection questions for quarterback Bryce Young and will use the reserve/NFI designation and daily medical updates to manage roster flexibility and monitor Moton’s potential midseason return.
