Panasonic Launches LUMIX DMW-DMS1 Digital Shotgun Mic With 32-Bit Float Audio

Some features activate after a March 10 firmware update on supported LUMIX bodies.

Overview

  • Panasonic introduced the pocket-sized DMW-DMS1 as a camera-mounted digital microphone for its LUMIX ecosystem.
  • A newly developed 10 mm microphone array enables six pickup patterns, including forward and rear supercardioid as well as bidirectional.
  • The mic supports 32-bit float recording up to roughly 120 dB and offers two backup tracks when using 4‑channel mode.
  • A hot-shoe connection provides power and digital audio without cables, while an internal shock mount, windscreen, and wind-noise cancellation target clean field recording.
  • Compatibility now includes the LUMIX S1II, S1RII, S1IIE, S5II, and S5IIX, with GH7 and G9II support planned and a March 10 firmware release required for certain functions.
