PAN Seeks 2 A.M. Metro on Key CDMX Lines for World Cup as Line 2 Faces New Closures

The party’s plan calls for 20 new trains with an estimated 7 billion–peso price tag to expand late-night travel during the 2026 tournament.

Overview

  • Metro CDMX, which announced Wednesday a Line 2 overhaul plan, will run the line in two segments from May 1 to 3 with city buses filling the middle section.
  • Portales and Nativitas stations on Line 2 will shut from Thursday at 10 p.m. until further notice to allow platform work tied to the rehabilitation effort.
  • During the segmented operation, trains will not serve San Antonio Abad, Chabacano or Viaducto, and the two active sections will be Tasqueña–Xola and Cuatro Caminos–Pino Suárez.
  • Separately, PAN CDMX proposed running Lines 1, 2 and 3 until 2 a.m. during the 2026 World Cup and keeping that closing time on Fridays and Saturdays, a plan that still needs city approval.
  • The proposal includes buying 20 trains for about 7 billion pesos to cut wait times and give night-shift workers and visitors a cheaper option than ride-hailing, as the Metro fare is 5 pesos while users reported crowding and delays on Lines 2, 3 and B on Wednesday.
