Palma Driver Arrested After Impersonating Cousin to Dodge Prison Order

Police say the stop uncovered a pending prison entry order triggered by a prior sentence breach.

Overview

  • An ECOP patrol stopped the 30-year-old Romanian driver on December 16 at 11:20 a.m. on the Carretera de Valldemossa for lacking insurance and a valid ITV.
  • He told officers he carried no documents and verbally provided his cousin’s identity to avoid detection.
  • A vehicle search turned up a TIB card, a Romanian ID matching his appearance, and a judicial requisition for detention and entry to Palma prison in his name.
  • After further questioning he admitted his identity, said he had no driving licence, and was arrested before Policía Nacional confirmed the prison order was in force.
  • The car was taken to the municipal impound, the case was sent to the investigating court, and he faces charges for usurpation of civil status and road safety offenses.
