Palm Beach Gardens Man Arrested on Vehicular Homicide Charge After High-Speed Crash

Police say investigators determined he was driving above 100 mph before the collision and the probe remains active as the case moves into criminal review.

Overview

  • A four-vehicle crash at the intersection of Central Boulevard and Victoria Falls Boulevard on July 9 left the driver of a white Audi A4 unconscious and later dead from his injuries.
  • After witness interviews and a detailed scene examination, Palm Beach Gardens investigators concluded that 29-year-old Akash D. Das was driving northbound at speeds exceeding 100 mph in a posted 45 mph zone prior to striking the Audi.
  • Police arrested and booked Das on a charge of vehicular homicide on Aug. 5 and said he is in the Palm Beach County Jail while the investigation continues.
  • Traffic homicide investigators interviewed multiple witnesses and inspected the crash scene to reach their speed determination, and officials say additional evidence-gathering is ongoing.
  • The case will proceed through prosecutorial review and pretrial proceedings, and the investigation’s outcome could affect criminal charges, potential penalties, and how local authorities pursue speed-related enforcement or safety measures.
