Palm Beach Enacts Strict Limits on Mar-a-Lago Helipad

The new rules seek to protect neighborhood safety while preserving narrowly defined presidential security and emergency access.

Overview

  • The Palm Beach Town Council voted Tuesday to adopt a fifth amendment that formalizes helipad use rules and puts the new restrictions into effect.
  • During President Trump's term the helipad is limited to official presidential business and private, recreational, or commercial flights are banned.
  • After the term ends the site may be used only for emergency government flights transporting Donald or Melania Trump when the U.S. Secret Service approves and coordinates the trip.
  • Unauthorized landings can trigger fines up to $15,000 per violation with larger penalties for repeat offenses and the Mar-a-Lago Club will be held responsible for violations.
  • The agreement requires the club to work with federal agencies to secure a 'restricted access' aviation designation and gives the town authority to require dismantling within three months if the property ceases to be a Secret Service protectee residence, building on prior 2017 and 2025 approvals.
