Palghar Government Staffer Stabbed in Broad Daylight, Police Hunt Suspect

Police view a personal relationship dispute as a leading line of inquiry after forensic teams recovered CCTV footage, the discarded weapon and other evidence.

Overview

  • The 27-year-old revenue department employee, Snehal Sawant, was attacked on Friday evening near the Gold Cinema area and was struck repeatedly with a sharp weapon, suffering serious wounds to her neck, back, shoulders and waist.
  • Police have identified the accused as Amol Mule, reported to be a court peon attached to the Bombay High Court, and he remains absconding while officers have set up blockades and launched search teams.
  • CCTV footage reportedly captured the entire assault and investigators collected a bag and the weapon left at the scene for forensic reconstruction and further evidence processing.
  • Sawant was first taken to Palghar Rural Hospital and was later referred to a private hospital in Boisar where she is being treated in critical condition.
  • Authorities say they will use the video and forensic evidence to secure an arrest and the probe could prompt reviews of staff safety and security practices at local government workplaces.
