Overview
- The Palau confirmed on Tuesday that refurbishment works at nº 54 Via Laietana are well advanced and that it has secured a 20-year lease on the two joined commercial premises.
- The new 353–354.5 m² space will house visitor reception, an introductory exhibition about the building and the Orfeó Català, a shop operated by Laie, and a small immersive audio box.
- The immersive box will seat about a dozen people and will premiere a five-minute commissioned choral piece by Marc Timón designed to convey the Orfeó Català’s sound.
- The institution estimates the intervention at about €1.5 million, plans to complete construction in August with a staged opening, and expects the immersive experience to begin operating in November.
- The move responds to growing demand—visits rose from roughly 600,000 to nearly one million in recent years—and aims to raise street-level cultural engagement, improve visitor service, and free up internal space previously used for ticketing and retail.
