Overview
- For the week ended February 12, the PBS Sensitive Price Indicator fell 0.59%, led by drops in eggs (−17.61%), tomatoes (−12.02%) and chicken (−6.34%).
- On a year-over-year basis, the SPI rose 4.26%, with tomatoes up 73.36%, wheat flour 33.82% and gas charges 29.85%.
- Additional weekly decreases were recorded for onions (−2.73%), potatoes (−2.49%), wheat flour (−1.31%), sugar (−1.12%) and LPG (−1.57%).
- Prices were mixed across the 51-item basket, with 15 items up, 15 down and 21 unchanged across 17 urban centres.
- PBS data show a 4.54% annual increase for the lowest expenditure group compared with 3.32% for the highest-income group.
