Overview

  • Tuesday strikes along the Afghanistan–Pakistan frontier killed at least 12 civilians in Kunar, Khost and Paktika provinces, with local officials and the Taliban saying many victims were children.
  • Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the attacks hit homes and killed 11 children, one woman and one elderly man while a Khost official told AFP a Spera house strike killed nine and wounded ten.
  • Pakistan’s government said the raids targeted Tehreek‑e‑Taliban Pakistan (TTP) positions and claimed dozens of fighters were killed, but Pakistani officials did not immediately respond to AFP requests about civilian deaths.
  • The fresh strikes come on top of heavy losses earlier this year, with a UN report recording at least 372 Afghan civilian deaths between January and March and the border largely closed since October, freezing trade.
  • The renewed bombing raises the risk of wider escalation, threatens more civilian suffering and could further disrupt cross‑border commerce and aid access in affected provinces.
