Pakistan Sets Zakat Nisab at Rs503,529 for 1446–47 A.H.

Banks will auto-deduct on the confirmed first day of Ramadan, with the date dependent on the moon sighting expected to be confirmed on February 18.

Overview

  • An official notification fixes the threshold for deductions from savings, profit-and-loss sharing and similar bank accounts at Rs503,529, with no deduction below that balance on the deduction date.
  • All Zakat-collecting agencies and banks have been instructed to deduct on the first day of Ramadan and deposit proceeds immediately into Central Zakat Account No. CZ-08 at the State Bank of Pakistan.
  • Account holders who submit valid self-declarations or hold Shariah or legal exemptions will not face automatic deductions, according to ministry guidance.
  • Suparco forecasts the crescent is likely to be visible on February 18, making February 19 the expected start of fasting, as the central moon-sighting committee meets in Peshawar with zonal committees convening nationwide.
  • This year’s threshold is about 180% higher than 2025’s Rs179,689, a jump attributed to higher gold prices used to benchmark the Nisab.
