Pakistan Says Nearly 800 Afghan Taliban Killed as Border Attack Repelled

Pakistan seeks visible action from Kabul against cross-border militants.

Overview

  • Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, posting an update Sunday, said Operation Ghazab Lil Haq has killed 796 Afghan Taliban and TTP fighters and injured more than 1,043, with hundreds of posts and vehicles claimed destroyed.
  • Security forces foiled an assault on a border post in North Waziristan’s Ghulam Khan sector during the nights of April 2 and 3, with Tarar reporting 37 attackers killed and over 80 wounded.
  • An intelligence-based raid in Datta Khel on April 1 killed eight militants who officials say tried to infiltrate Pakistan, and two of the dead were identified as Afghan nationals from Paktia.
  • China is hosting talks in Urumqi as a mediator, with Beijing saying discussions are advancing and Pakistan pushing for “visible and verifiable” steps against groups operating from Afghan soil.
  • Pakistan launched the cross-border campaign on February 26 after what it called unprovoked firing, paused it for Eid until March 23–24, and now reports these outcomes as official claims that Kabul disputes.
