Pakistan Says 125 Killed in Coordinated Balochistan Attacks

Officials blame foreign backing for the assault.

Overview

  • The military reported 18 civilians and 15 security personnel killed, along with 92 insurgents including three suicide attackers.
  • Gun and suicide strikes hit more than a dozen sites across the province, with major clashes in Quetta and the port city of Gwadar.
  • The Balochistan Liberation Army claimed responsibility, saying it targeted military installations as well as police and civil administration officials.
  • Insurgents freed at least 30 prison inmates, seized weapons and ammunition, raided a police post, and abducted the deputy administrator of Nushki.
  • Police in several districts said the situation was not fully under control, mobile networks were restricted and rail services were suspended, while the army called the assaults coordinated but poorly executed and leaders accused India as a security official cited insurgent contacts in Afghanistan.
