Pakistan Retires CJCSC as Gen Sahir Mirza Makes Farewell Visits Before Nov. 27 Command Shift

The 27th Amendment creates a Chief of Defence Forces role to be held by Field Marshal Asim Munir.

  • President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised General Sahir Shamshad Mirza’s service during separate farewell meetings in Islamabad.
  • At GHQ, Mirza laid a wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada and received a Guard of Honour as ISPR quoted the army chief lauding his leadership, joint preparedness and military diplomacy.
  • During a farewell visit to Air Headquarters, the air chief credited Mirza with strengthening tri-service coordination and reaffirmed the Pakistan Air Force’s commitment to close cooperation.
  • ISPR said Saudi Chief of General Staff Fayyadh Bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili met Mirza at Joint Staff Headquarters to discuss regional security and deepen defence ties.
  • The CJCSC post, created in 1976, ends on November 27 under the new law, and the COAS is set to assume the Chief of Defence Forces position with a five-year term.
