- President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif cited a recent WHO report that links contaminated food to roughly 866 million illnesses and about 1.5 million deaths per year to justify urgent action.
- The Ministry of National Food Security and Research outlined technical steps already under way, including provision of quality seeds, wider access to inputs, more farm machinery, strengthened value chains and expanded storage capacity.
