Pakistan Orders 5 a.m.–10 p.m. Gas Window for Households in Winter Push

The order locks in timed household supply windows, with utility tariff hikes now before regulators.

Overview

  • Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed gas companies to ensure uninterrupted residential supply from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the cold season.
  • SNGPL’s December–February plan remains in effect with three daily household slots in Punjab and KP, while officials say industrial supply will not be curtailed.
  • Officials reported stronger household deliveries compared with last year, including about 590 MMCFD on the SNGPL network in November and an 18–20% rise for SSGC areas.
  • Authorities logged roughly 80,000–90,000 consumer complaints in November and said most were resolved within OGRA’s 36-hour benchmark, with added focus on low-pressure hotspots such as Quetta.
  • The government has restarted issuing RLNG domestic connections after a four-year freeze, and SNGPL and SSGC tariff petitions for 2025–26 are pending OGRA review.
