Pakistan Military Says 13 ‘India-Backed’ Militants Killed in Two KP Operations

The announcement reflects a stepped-up counterterror campaign following last year’s rise in attacks.

Overview

  • ISPR reported that security forces killed 13 militants linked to the proxy group it calls Fitna al-Khawarij during two intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
  • Eight militants were killed in Bannu district and five in Kurram district after intense exchanges of fire, with follow-up sanitisation operations underway, according to the military.
  • The CTD separately said three wanted suspects — Naimatullah, Abdul Rauf Afghani, and Mustafa — were killed in an intelligence-led operation in Dera Ismail Khan, with three Kalashnikovs, nine magazines and two grenades recovered.
  • In Balochistan’s Kalat district, four militants were earlier killed in an operation that drew praise from President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who reiterated continued actions under Azm-e-Istehkam and the National Action Plan.
  • Officials also reported that a key bridge over the Kurram River in North Waziristan was destroyed by explosives, severing access to Miranshah, with no claim of responsibility.
