Overview
- SUPARCO said EO‑2 was successfully placed in orbit after liftoff from China’s Yangjiang Seashore Launch Centre on Thursday.
- The spacecraft was conceived, engineered and integrated in Pakistan at SUPARCO’s Satellite Research and Development Centre, reflecting growing in‑country capability.
- EO‑2 is designed to operate alongside last year’s EO‑1, improving data continuity, broader coverage and more reliable change detection under varying illumination conditions.
- The mission will supply high‑resolution imagery and spatial data for national development planning, natural resource management, environmental monitoring, urban expansion mapping and disaster management.
- President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar praised the achievement and thanked China, with the launch following China’s shortlisting of two Pakistani candidates for astronaut training announced on February 7.
