Pakistan Extends Airspace Ban on Indian Aircraft to April 24

The month-long extension highlights a year-old closure that has forced Indian carriers onto longer, costlier routes.

Overview

  • PAA issued a fresh NOTAM on March 18 extending the restriction through April 24, 2026.
  • The ban applies across both Karachi (OPKR) and Lahore (OPLR) Flight Information Regions, according to PCAA documentation.
  • All India-registered aircraft are barred, as well as planes operated, owned, or leased by Indian carriers, including military flights.
  • The closure has remained in place since April 2025 after the Pahalgam attack, with India blaming Pakistan and Islamabad rejecting the claim while calling for a neutral probe.
  • The latest notice arrived days before the prior NOTAM’s March 23 expiry, as Indian airlines continue to incur higher fuel costs and longer flight times on diverted routes.
