Pakistan, AIIB Finalize $320 Million Loan to Rebuild Key Sections of National Highway N-5

The deal advances a climate-resilient upgrade to Pakistan’s main road artery to strengthen trade and regional links.

Overview

  • Pakistan’s Economic Affairs Division and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank signed the $320.16 million financing Tuesday in Islamabad for Phase-IA of the N-5 reconstruction.
  • The program targets critical stretches through Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the country’s busiest north–south corridor that connects major economic centers.
  • AIIB said the rebuild will use modern, green and climate-resilient design standards to ensure sustainability and long-term durability.
  • EAD Secretary Muhammad Humair Karim Kidwai and AIIB Chief Investment Officer Konstantin Limitovskiy signed the agreement in the presence of Federal Minister Ahad Khan Cheema.
  • A separate project agreement with the National Highway Authority sets out project delivery under Pakistan’s Resilient Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Framework.
